What is the Georgia Heartland region?

We get this question a lot at Georgia Heartland News! Our region is part of the Classic Heartland and the Historic Heartland. The region covers the center of the state with its wealth of civil war history, lakes and rivers, and golfing communities.

The Classic Heartland covers a wide band from Columbus to Augusta and from Athens to Warner Robins.

The Historic Heartland is more specific to the region that extends from Athens to Perry and from Barnesville to Milledgeville. The Georgia Department of Tourism lists counties in the region as: Baldwin, Bibb, Butts, Clarke, Crawford, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Monroe, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Peach, Putnam, Rockdale, Twiggs, Walton, and Wilkinson.

Our regional focus

While one day Georgia Heartland News would like to cover all of the region in our good news, our initial focus for information has been concentrated in Morgan (Madison and Rutledge), Newton (Covington, Oxford, Mansfield, and Porterdale), Rockdale (Conyers) and Walton (Loganville, Monroe and Social Circle) Counties. But we have been expanding little by little because we know that people in the region know no boundaries!

In the Georgia Heartland, you’ll find quaint cities that have an abundance of food, entertainment and activities that are year-round.

As a newcomer, you’ll find our online news is filled with helpful information about events and activities in the region, restaurant reviews, attractions and good news stories. It is our hope that you will quickly discover that good things are happening in the community.
