Piedmont Academy Adds Equestrian Team

Piedmont Academy is excited to add yet another opportunity for its students. The Piedmont Cougars celebrated the addition of their newest sport, Piedmont Equestrian, during Friday night’s home game against Robert Toombs.

To kick-off the inaugural season of Piedmont Equestrian, there was a special performance during the opening ceremony by Elizabeth Dabney of the Diamond D Cowgirls and her horse Accolade. Also, the members of both the western and English teams were introduced during halftime.

Piedmont Equestrian is a member of the Interscholastic Equestrian Association and has partnered with A-Step Away Stables for the 2020-2021 season. Our English riders compete in equitation on the flat and over fences. The western team competes at separate shows in the areas of Horsemanship and Reining. Each rider draws their horse at random for that show only and is judged based on their ability to perform specific maneuvers, patterns and/or rail work.

The English team is proudly coached by Mrs. Leslie Williams of A Step Away Stables and Mrs. Erica Peden of Piedmont Academy. Their roster of upper elementary/ middle school riders consists of Saylor Berry, Cora Hood, Lyleigh Thompson, Madison Swann, Madalynn Bryant and Isabel White.  Our Western team is coached by Mrs. Lauren McLendon of Piedmont Academy. The western roster of riders consists of McKayla Arnold, Lendon Reeder and Noel Pickle.  The Piedmont Equestrian Team is sponsored by Social Circle Ace Hardware Installed Sales, Inc.
